IGM integrates AI, Blockchain, and next-gen hardware to transfigure the architecture of theyellow metal trade practices

For generations of Indians, July 24, 1991 remains a defining moment. On that historic afternoon, the Union Budget decisively dismantled the stifling ‘Licence Raj’, unleashing deregulation, open enterprise, and institutional reform.

Thirty-five years on from that watershed summer, India’s domestic bullion market and precious metal trade stand before an identical turning point, catalysed by the strategic mentorship and blueprint of market maven Jignesh Shah, realised through his brainchild India Gold Metaverse (IGM).

This tech visionary has never believed in half-measures. He was the pioneering architect behind Financial Technologies (now 63 moons technologies) and the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), which grew into the world’s second-largest commodity futures bourse and global heavyweight in bullion contracts. Most significantly, his group created 10 lakh (one million) jobs through the establishment of multi-asset exchanges. Long before “fintech” became everyday parlance, his electronic broking network, ODIN, brought institutional trading screens to the farthest corners of the country. Overall, Shah established 10 state-of-the-art, multi-asset exchanges globally, all within a decade.

Drawing on this rich experience, he realised early on that whenever archaic barriers stall human endeavour, modern systems will eventually rise to break the deadlock. And one segment ripe for such a transformation is the country’s bullion industry.

While India’s broader financial architecture now offers real-time settlements and seamless digital access, the gold and jewellery industry remains largely unorganised and technologically legacy-bound. From manual touchstone scraping to siloed retail counters, the ecosystem has long cried out for comprehensive modernisation.

Shah is a strong believer in Victor Hugo’s famous saying, “No power on earth can stop an idea whose time has come” (the very same maxim quoted by then-Finance Minister Manmohan Singh in the 1991 landmark Budget that reshaped the economic destiny of the country). Being a pioneer of markets at core, Shah mentored IGM to channelise his proven exchange-building DNA into bullion reform under a single radical premise: “Gold is Technology”.

The tech genius noticed that fragmented markets, inconsistent price discovery, limited digitisation and disconnected stakeholders have prevented the gold industry from operating as one unified, tech-enabled economy. He envisioned revolutionising the domestic bullion and jewellery market through technology and innovation.

Simply speaking, IGM is weaving together four integrated verticals – GoldSense, RamMudra, BullionX, and Elanzia – and delivering Programmability, Transmissibility, Fractionalization and Transparency across every link of the physical and digital gold value chain.

Four pillars that form next-gen gold infrastructure

IGM has established a full-stack digital gold ecosystem to solve all bullion bottlenecks at once, rather than patching over problems individually. Its setup links assaying, retail investment, wholesale trading, and consumer discovery into one seamless network.

  1. GoldSense: Non-destructive gold purity testing machine

For centuries, testing gold meant rubbing an ornament on a black touchstone and splashing nitric acid. That destroys precious milligrams. The alternative – surface-level XRF spectrometers – barely scans 0.1-0.3 mm deep. They remain completely blind to copper or tungsten cores.

GoldSense, IGM’s AI-powered digital karatometer, changes the rules entirely. This radiation-free device comes in the size of a smartphone. It uses conduction-based probing to read up to 7 mm per side, delivering an unmatched 14 mm composite subsurface scan across both sides of an ornament with zero metal loss. By producing an instant purity report shareable via mobile, this portable gold testing machine gives jewellers, banks, and NBFCs institutional-grade collateral confidence right at the counter.

  1. RamMudra: Blockchain gold platform and minted coins

RamMudra makes digital gold investment transparent and accessible. It combines blockchain record-keeping with custodian-vaulted physical bullion. Every digital unit is fully backed gram-for-gram by genuine gold. This removes retail mark-ups, speculative crypto volatility, and lock-in periods. Through this digital gold platform, investors can accumulate fractional gold with 24×7 instant bank redemption or choose doorstep delivery of premium 24K gold coins in tamper-proof packaging.

  1. BullionX: B2B bullion trading platform

Wholesale procurement in the bullion market in India has historically grappled with regional price spreads and settlement delays. BullionX provides a dedicated B2B bullion trading platform. It delivers live price discovery, secure logistics, and next-day physical delivery. As a result, bullion dealers, refiners, and jewellery manufacturers can execute trades on a secure, standardised digital bullion trading platform.

  1. Elanzia: AI-curated online jewellery marketplace

Traditional fine jewellery buying often restricts regional master artisans to local footfall. Meanwhile, consumers remain limited to neighbourhood inventory.

Elanzia bridges this gap as an AI-curated jewellery marketplace. Powered by “Magic Mirror” virtual try-on jewellery technology and intelligent discovery engines, it provides jewellers with an expansive digital showcase under a seamless “Digitally Discovered, Physically Delivered” model.

The Vision Ahead

Just as the 1991 liberalisation ended the ‘Licence Raj’, Shah’s architecture for IGM signals the end of opacity across Indian gold. By uniting hardware innovation, blockchain ledger trust, wholesale liquidity, and digital commerce, IGM is not simply digitising bullion, but it is giving India’s most cherished asset a secure, transparent, and tech-driven future.
